SURVEY SHOWS INTERNET PLAYING BIGGER ROLE IN BUYING PROCESS
Article Abstract:
According to a survey by Cahner's Business Information, 27% of buyers used the internet first in their search, compared to 13% in 1997. However, this did not mean market share was taken from trade publications, to which 39% of the surveyed buyers turned first, just as in 1997. The survey also included information on internet and magazine sales forces. The survey concluded that 88% of the buyers said they'd rather learn about vendors from communications programs than from sales reps. The 12% that preferred sales reps declined from 1997's 20%.

The US Postal Service is planning to launch Parcel Select as a rival service to United Parcel's (UPS) dominance in the commercial package delivery arena. Offering the same or better service at a lower price to businesses with 50 or more packages per day is the main objective of the new service, which is set to begin on Jan 10, 1999. However, UPS doubts if the Postal Service can match their services and prices.
