Ambiguous copyright law catches out scholars
Article Abstract:
Academics are being incorrectly charged to use literature, works of art and music in their research, according to a study by the British Academy. Many art galleries and publishers have failed to understand that copyright law does not apply if material is to be used for criticism, private study, non-commercial research or review.

Ethics row hits research body
Article Abstract:
The national student lobby has called for the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) in Canada to investigate a case which appears to have broken copyright laws. The NSERC has failed to investigate and appears to have buried negative research findings in one of its funded projects.

Researchers in New Zealand are using the Internet to overcome their geographic isolation and share Publicly funded science research through open-access journals. While income may be lost by taking this route, researchers believe that the increased visibility they get more than outweighs this.
