Thrills, spills and pills
Article Abstract:
Former Scientist Carl Djerassi suggests the introduction of a male contraceptive pill has too many potential risks. He points out other fields of research are of far more importance, such as those concerning infective diseases. Djerassi was part of the team which developed the female oral contraceptive pill, in the 1950s. Djerassi has become a novelist in addition to publishing scientific papers. He actively supports young artists at the Djerassi Foundation in San Francisco. Djerassi also teaches feminist studies at Stanford.

Great minds, hard problem
Article Abstract:
The Tucson 2 conference held in Arizona in April 1996, is called Towards a Science of Consciousness, and includes scholars from a wide range of disciplines. Some researchers have examined the problem of detecting consciousness in humans. Others argue that consciousness has evolved through natural selection. There is also a debate as to whether machines can be said to have consciousness, with some scientists arguing that this is possible with a machine as large as the Internet.
