Capitation spurs doctor-driven utilitzation curbs, Calif. study finds
Article Abstract:
A new study published in the New England Journal of Medicine indicates that physicians accepting capitated payments dramatically lower hospital utilization rates. The study found that, at six California medical groups whose revenues consist largely of capitation payments, hospitalization and outpatient-treatment rates were very low, compared to utilization rates for commercially insured and Medicare patients.
