Lasker honors cell biologists, psychiatrist
Article Abstract:
The 2006 Lasker Awards would be awarded to a group of cell biologists Elizabeth H. Blackburn, Carol W. Greider, Jack W. Szostak who discovered telomerase, and developed in situ hybridization and the psychiatrists Aaron T. Beck and Joseph Gall who researched on cognitive therapy. These awards recognize scientists for their outstanding contributions to basic and clinical research and are considered the most distinguished honor in the US.

Human embryonic stem cells contaminated
Article Abstract:
Findings by investigators at the University of California, San Diego, and the Salk Institute in La Jolla, California, have revealed that human embryonic stem cells (HESC) might be unsuitable for therapeutic use in humans. The study showed that the practice of culturing HESCs with animal-derived materials contaminates them with the nonhuman, cell surface sialic acid called N-glycolylneuraminic acid (Neu5Gc).
