Conquering Counters: using Counters as a separate numbering system in WordPerfect DOS and Windows
Article Abstract:
Users may insert Counters into documents created in WordPerfect for DOS 6.x or for Windows 6.x to display numbers. Using Counters is more complex than using Paragraph Numbers because users must create Counters before using them. For Windows 6.x programs, users should choose the Insert menu, then the Other and Counter commands. A Counter Numbering dialog box will appear, from which users should choose Create, then enter a Counter Name in the appropriate box. From the Single Level Method list, users may select the type of number that will appear. In the DOS 6.x programs, users must select Format, then Character followed by Counters. After the Counters dialog box appears, users must choose Create, and the Create Counter Definitions box will display. Users should choose the Name command and enter the Counter's name. The Levels should be left at the default setting. Users should then choose a Numbering Method and set the initial value of the Counter, then insert the Counter at the points where it will appear.

See it all in text mode
Article Abstract:
Stairway Software's $59.95 ScreenExtender 3.1 word processing add-on displays text attributes and extra columns and rows in WordPerfect's text mode. It allows users to view italics and bold and underline text. It also displays extended characters from Character Sets 1 and 4. The program is menu-driven, giving users pull-down options. One option includes changing default colors for displaying text attributes, and displaying WordPerfect menus. While ScreenExtender's default normal colors are white and blue like WordPerfect's, its other default colors are not. Its six screen fonts are Sans1, Sans2, Gothic1, Gothic2, Roman1 and Roman2. The Gothic2 default is recommended by the reviewer. ScreenExtender supports WordPerfect 5.0 through 6.1 for DOS. Once the program is loaded and configured it can be forgotten about and relied upon to dutifully complete its functions.
