Issues regarding the disappearing of the stigma against lateral moves among law firms are discussed. Laterally hired partners face the danger of not learning enough about a firm's culture and reputation before moving there and of not knowing whether what they are told is really true.

Women in NLJ 250 hit a glass plateau; mergers, lure of other work keep numbers at law firms flat
Article Abstract:
The plateauing of the numbers of women attorneys at the largest US law firms is discussed. In the law firms making the National Law Journal's list of the 250 largest US firms, the percentage of female partners decreased from 15.7% in 1998 to 15.6% in 2000. Firm leaders expected more progress this year.
