Rising gas prices spur calls for national boycott

Consumers are being exhorted by various groups to boycott gasoline stations from Apr 7, 2000, to Apr 9, 2000, to protest increasing gas prices. Prices for regular gas have surged from an average 91 cents per gallon in Feb 1999 to $1.50 in Mar 2000 after members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries cut oil production. The Energy Information Agency of the Energy Dept has warned that prices could jump to $1.80 in summer 2000.

Data point to Firestone tires made at Illinois factory
Article Abstract:
The Firestone tires that were recalled because their treads separated have been traced to Bridgestone/Firestone Inc's plant in Decatur, IL. The plant was pointed to based on Ford Motor Co's studies on customers' complaints on Firestone tires that were installed as original equipment on Ford sport-utility vehicles and pickups. The recalled tires made in the Decatur plant are the Wilderness AT, ATX and ATX II.
