Japan's moment of truth
Article Abstract:
The success of Japan's economic reforms rests on its political leaders and bureaucrats. It is necessary for the Japanese government to initiate a series of drastic measures to revive its moribund economy, including substantial tax cuts, transparency and genuine regulatory oversight of the financial sector and further opening of the domestic market to foreign competition. Japan must also shift the balance of power away from bureaucrats to elected leaders to enable the latter to assume real political power and institute the needed reforms.

Time for expansion, not punishment of Asian economies
Article Abstract:
Asian countries need to adopt expansionary policies to revive their moribund economies. A more open fiscal policy, efficient public expenditures, restructuring of the financial sector and reduction of interest rates are just some of the expansionary programs that governments can implement to drive demand and economic growth. Rich countries, however, must extend the necessary financial assistance to Asian economies to equip them with sufficient resources to make the expansionary policies work.

The aftermath of Japan's bubble economy
Article Abstract:
Japan's post buuble economic program has strengthened its international competitiveness. The assets of many hurting small and medium sized companies are being brought under control of the large corporations. Thus economic power is concentrated in fewer hands and this makes the economic onslaught in the world market easier.
