Adolescent modeling of parent substance use: the moderating effect of the relationship with the parent
Article Abstract:
Research shows adolescents model the substance use of their parents where there is a good or moderate parent-adolescent relationship, indicating that not all good relationships are protective. The parents' substance use was not modeled where the relationship was comparatively poor. Research involved 633 mothers, 357 fathers and 657 adolescents. Where there was a good parent-adolescent relationship, the father's alcohol use was modeled by older boys and younger girls; mother's marijuana use modeled by older adolescents; father's marijuana use and mother's cigarette use were modeled by all.

A transactional model of adolescent self-esteem
Article Abstract:
A transactional model of self-esteem(TMS) was tested in a study of 104 adolescents. The study validated the assumption that there is a direct connection between self-esteem and adolescents self-perception and mothers' positive feedback. The link between self-esteem and mothers' depressive traits and adolescent behavior problems is more indirect. The study used various sources such as self-reports, ratings, teachers and observers.
