Consultation is extremely important, according to outgoing Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Pres Richard Lay. He emphasizes that the RICS is a members' organization and that the wishes of its members cannot be ignored. He believes that the main goal of the RICS should be to ensure that its members obtain value for money. He emphasizes the need for the RICS to promote itself internationally and for the status of chartered surveyors to be improved.
