Article Abstract:
Potter Beatrice Wood studied at the Academie Julien in Paris, France, from the age of 18. On her return to New York, NY, she maintained contact with European artists including Man Ray and Francis Picabia. She cooperated with Henri-Pierre Roche and Marcel Duchamp to form the journal Blind Man, which supported the Dada movement in New York. She took up ceramics in the late 1920s, and undertook research into lustre glaze techniques following study at Hollywood High School.

Janet Leach
Article Abstract:
Potter Janet Leach showed artistic talent from an early age, being particularly interested in sculpture. She took a job in a shipyard when the US entered the second world war, and continued to make sculpture after the war ended. She found it hard to establish a career in sculpture, so gradually turned to pottery. She was greatly influenced by Bernard Leach's book 'A Potter's Book,' and was also influenced by Japanese potter Shoji Hamada.

Norah Braden
Article Abstract:
Potter and teacher Norah Braden was born in Margate, England, in 1901. She studied at the Central School of Art and Design and at the Royal College of Art in London, England, and then undertook further studies at the Leach Pottery in St Ives, England.
