Emotion, passion and distance
Article Abstract:
Dutch composer Louis Andriessen relishes the combination of passion, emotion and distance in good music. His work is relatively unknown in the UK. However, this may change following the UK premier of his latest work 'Trilogy of the Last Day,' on Aug 26, 1999, at the Royal Albert Hall in London, England. He feels that emotions and passions should be used as a driving force for composing passionate music. He emphasizes that 'Trilogy of the Last Day' is not about death, even though the subject is death.

Composer and lyricist Gene Scheer has produced a very attractive libretto, while Picker makes confident use of trios, duos and arias. However, the plot has been extensively altered.
