For a mediocre wage you get a dim MP
Article Abstract:
MPs are poorly paid compared with many other professions, but they are unwilling to exercise their power to vote themselves a pay rise, fearing the reaction of the general public. They are aware that they already have a poor public image, and do not want to make this any worse by inflating their salaries. However, they are no more interested in money than any other sections of the population, and are entitled to adequate compensation for a difficult lifestyle. They should receive a salary which allows them to concentrate on their parliamentary work, rather than seeking additional income elsewhere.

In Scotland, a nation is on the move
Article Abstract:
There is now very strong support for Scottish independence, and the issue is attracting much debate. The Scottish National Party (SNP) has been associated with extremism in the past, but its present leader, Alex Salmond, is making considerable efforts to distance himself from this element. There has been a strong growth in the power of civil society in Scotland, and Scottish politics are becoming an issue which can no longer be ignored by politicians in Westminster.
