Butchered in blind hate on a road far from home
Article Abstract:
The murder of journalist Sander Thoenes in Dili, East Timor, can be seen as a terrible waste. His death was completely pointless, and is a reflection of the climate of hatred created by the actions of the Indonesian armed forces in East Timor. Those who criticize journalists and their superiors for leaving dangerous situations should recognize that the death of a journalist serves no purpose at all. It is wrong for those who are a long way from a dangerous situation to say that journalists should not withdraw.
