Strategies to weather the storm
Article Abstract:
The recession is causing pupil shortages and cash crises at private schools. The economic climate is also pushing financially stretched parents to send their offspring to day schools or sixth form colleges. Schools are stretching their scholarship funds, launching building appeals to update their premises and trying to attract overseas students to stem their falling roles. As pupil numbers drop, many independent schools are finding the pressure too much, and 12 schools have closed since summer 1991.

Drink absinthe with the mystics in Romany city
Article Abstract:
The Prague suburb of Zizkov has a large Romany population, and these people are seen as an underclass by ordinary Czechs. It is one of Prague's poorest suburbs, with badly polluted air and run-down buildings. However, it is a very good place to experience 'real' Czech life. The pubs and restaurants are very cheap, and visitors can also go to the former Communist mausoleum.
