Tommy McCook
Article Abstract:
Tenor saxophonist, flautist, composer and arranger Tommy McCook began performing with the Alpha Boys Band at school in Kingstown, Jamaica. He had become sufficiently proficient to play on radio jingles by the mid-1950s, and gained a performance at the Zanzibar club in Nassau, Bahamas. He recorded the 'Jazz Jamaica from the Workshop' album when he returned to Jamaica in 1963, and in 1964 joined with performers including Don Drummond and Johnny Moore to form an orchestra called the Skatalites.

Roland Alphonso
Article Abstract:
Saxophonist Roland Alphonso was a jobbing musician by his late teens. He was backing the Jamaican comedians Bim and Bam by 1958, and soon gained a reputation as one of Jamaica's leading session musicians. He was a founder member of the Skatalites, a group which had a hit in 1967 with 'Guns Of Navarone' and which recorded many instrumental tracks, mostly written by trombonist Don Drummond. Alphonso played on many classic shuffle-boogie tracks, and became a core member of the Blues Blasters.

Rob Gretton
Article Abstract:
Music manager Rob Gretton became heavily involved in the punk rock scene in Manchester, England, in his early 20s. He managed local act the Panik before becoming manager of Joy Division, which gradually gained widespread recognition. Gretton subsequently changed the band's name to New Order. The band saw mixed fortunes, although 'World In Motion' became a British No 1 single and the World Cup anthem in Jun 1990.
