Article Abstract:
The punishment beatings must stop immediately, according to Sinn Fein Pres Gerry Adams. He believes that there is a need for a new policing service in Northern Ireland, along with community involvement and new approaches to criminal justice. He feels that history is made by insignificant people whose actions are not recorded but who make their own history on an everyday basis. He greatly admires ordinary Irish people who are seeking to create a new society.

'Even the dogs in the street knew the peace process was over.' (Gerry Adams, president of Sinn Fein)(Interview)
Article Abstract:
The media is incorrect to state that Sinn Fein controls the IRA, according to Sinn Fein president Gerry Adams. He knew that the bomb attacks in Docklands and Manchester, England, would bring the ceasefire in Northern Ireland to an end, but was powerless to stop the IRA carrying them out. He is still firmly committed to a political solution to the conflict in Northern Ireland, believing that the military approach will never be successful.

'I have lived my life on the edge and I would like to live a normal life, in what's left of it. But I am doomed, as long as I am spared, to be a political animal.' (Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams) (Interview)
Article Abstract:
Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams did not grow up in a family where politics was discussed much, but was always aware of his Irishness. He began to help Sinn Fein as a teenager, but had only limited political understanding at that stage. He has now devoted his life to politics, and has spent much of the last 25 years on the run. His public image has recently become much more positive, and he has gained a strong reputation as a writer.
