Income, inequality and mortality in 14 developed countries
Article Abstract:
Issues are discussed regarding the effect of the shift in poverty from elderly people to young families on the idea that more egalitarian societies have lower mortality rates. Age- and sex-specific mortality statistics in relation to income inequality and poverty from 14 OECD countries are used, and absolute income levels showed no consistent relation to mortality.

Crack cocaine and prostitution in London in the 1990s
Article Abstract:
Interviews with London prostitutes who use crack cocaine are discussed and reveal that these women feel more likely to suffer lost income, ill health and becoming victims of crime. Although a minority of prostitutes so far use the drug, its easy availability throughout the industry makes the spread of information about its ill effects important.
