Prisoners' perceptions of prison offenders as sources of support
Article Abstract:
A questionnaire was used to determine prisoners' willingness to use prison officers as a source of support. Results indicate that approach for support was rare but depended on the type of support needed. Prisoners were more likely to ask for practical than emotional help.

Straight time: inmates' perceptions of violence and victimization in the prison environment
Article Abstract:
A survey of 775 adult male prisoners examined perceptions of the level of violence in prisons. Results indicate that perceptions vary according to sociodemographic and criminal history factors.

Patterns of violent behavior and victimization among African American youth
Article Abstract:
African American youth are most at risk to victimzation by peers while traveling to and from school. Violence has long-term effects on future mental health status, and on emotional development.
