Skoda Auto Parts Center is commissioned

Skoda Auto (SA) (Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic), car company, is improving its services in the field of spare parts in 2000. The firm built a warehouse named Skoda Auto Parts Center in Mlada Boleslav at a cost of 1.3 bil Kc during a 13-month period. The warehouse, which is the largest logistics spare part centre in the Czech Republic, was commissioned in June 2000. More than 30 firms participated in the construction of the centre with an area of 30,000 sq mt. About two thirds of the firms were Czech. All the activities of the warehouse are controlled by a modern SAP information system. The centre includes more than 25,000 items of original spare parts for all the types of Skoda cars. It supplies spare parts to 320 Skoda dealers in the Czech Republic and Slovakia and 88 worldwide. The centre will supply components to 78 traders in the affiliated car makes Volkswagen, Audi and Seat in the Czech Republic prospectively.

Aluminium strengthens its positions

Hayes Lemmerz Alukola (HLA) (Ostrava, Czech Republic), car wheel manufacturer, will increase the capacity of its plant in Ostrava to 1 mil wheels per year by 2003. The plant was commissioned in 1999. It has a capacity of 500,000 aluminium wheels per year in 1999. The parent firm Hayes Lemmerz (US) wants to invest a total of 25 mil USD in the plant by 2003. Wheels from the plant will be taken by the car companies BMW (Germany), Mercedes (Germany), Opel (Germany) and Skoda Auto (Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic). The number of the plant's employees should increase to more than 200 by 2003 compared to about 70 employees in 1999. HLA was set up by an investment of its sole partner Hayes Lemmerz-Dello (US/Italy).

Skoda Auto is the manufacturer of the year

Skoda Auto (SA) (Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic), car company, won the award Manufacturer of the Year from the motor magazine Autocar in the UK in the autumn of 2000. SA won the prize for its versatile transformation since 1991, when the concern Volkswagen (Germany) entered the firm. SA invested over DEM 4 bil in new products and technology during 1991-1999. Its production volume will increase to the expected more than 400,000 pieces in 2000 compared to 170,000 pieces in 1991. Skoda cars are exported to more than 70 countries. SA's important market is the UK. The firm sold 23,145 Skoda cars on the UK market in 1999, 5.2% more compared to 1998.
